Health Educational Systems Inc (HESI) Exam

What is the HESI exam?

Health Education Systems, Inc or HESI provides potential nursing students with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams related to undergraduate college courses.

What areas will I be tested on?

You will be tested on Math, Reading, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Anatomy & Physiology. There is also a learning and personality style portion of the exam.

How many times can a student take the exam?

Twice.

What is the passing score?

75% or higher composite score is passing.

How long are the HESI scores valid?

Seven years.

How long is the test?

The exam is a computer based test. You have up to four hours to complete the exam.

When is the HESI offered?

The exam is offered the first Friday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Engineering Building, Room 140.
Due to the July 4th holiday, the exam may not be offered in July.

What is the cost of the exam?

The test fee is $33.  Please bring a CHECK or MONEY ORDER made payable to "University of Detroit Mercy" on the test date. Test fees are non-refundable and CASH is not accepted.

How do I purchase a study guide?

You can find the book Admission Assessment Exam Review / Edition 2 on the Barnes & Noble website.

How will the HESI score influence admissions?

When a candidate applies for admission to the McAuley School of Nursing, their application is evaluated in terms of ALL of the admission criteria.  These criteria include prior academic achievement, actual grades in supportive core and prerequisite courses in math and science.
